The Golden Vessel

Reverend Crest took to the pulpit, as he did every Sunday morning. It was Communion Sunday for the First United Brethren Church. A special occasion that only happened a few times a year.

“Good morning everyone. Today, we are blessed with Communion. It is a day that allows us to grow closer to our God.”

He opened his bible and began to read.

” ‘Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge. Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank. One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?” The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.”‘

“In Daniel Chapter 12, Daniel was shown that wisdom came from above! The stars in the heavens shine bright and with them comes true wisdom!

“We are the people who are chosen. We are the holy people. We will inherit the wisdom of the stars and through it be cleansed!”

The Reverend was getting fired up now. The crowd could feel his words like a great shimmer in the air. They could feel a presence among them. As he spoke, the Attendants in white hooded robes came from elsewhere in the church, holding two glasses filled with a deep rich liquid.

It was a dark purple when the light of the sun streamed in through the windows and caught it, but looked black in the glass under the artificial lights. The Attendants began passing the two glasses among the church goers\ on either side of the church aisle.

“Drink now, for this is the blood of our God given to us to see the wisdom!”

Then other Attendants came forward, each with bread.

“Eat this bread, the broken flesh of our God!”

The Reverend drank from a glass and ate of the bread. The communion drink was sweet like grape juice and honey mixed with more exotic fruits.

“In  second Timothy Chapter 2 it says ‘Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.’

“With this communion, we are made into a golden vessel! One of honorable use to the master of the house!

“Will we deny ourselves this right to receive from the stars its divine wisdom?

“No! For we have seen the truth and it is a great and powerful truth.

“I tell you now, God walks among us, here and amidst the wretched undeserving of this world! We are chosen, we who drink this nectar granted us by our God!

“Look upon his visage and see the stars!”

The Reverend pointed at a chair along the wall. It was ornate and made of wood with intricate carvings. It hadn’t been there before the start of Communion.

And sitting on it now was a man whose skin was black as night with stars glowing brightly under his skin. Swirling nebulas and entire galaxies moved as if the universe was in motion upon his visage.

“BEHOLD THE WALKER AMONG THE STARS!!!”

Each member of the congregation broke into worship, their words being those that no one but the being before them understood.

The service lasted only an hour, but to those who attended it felt so much longer, and yet, not long enough.

Reverend Crest spoke with each congregant as they left. They complimented his sermon. They told him how they felt closer to their God. He smiled and told them how God was closer to them now.

None of them would remember the vision of the man with the stars under his skin. It faded just like it did every communion.

They would still feel the power unleashed in the service, though, that power, and that was all that mattered. For one day, the heavens will part and the Walker Among the Stars will come and show them the way.
